Thinking about taking History at College

There are currently two different options for History at A Level at 6th Form

History A Level - Medieval and Early Modern

Why choose the Edexcel Medieval & Early Modern Course?

If you are interested in England under the Tudors, how they rose to power, why people rebelled against them, how they altered the destiny of the English church and state.

If you are interested in religion and sixteenth century Europe and would like to know how the Protestant faith emerged and how this event led to rebellions and wars firstly in Germany and then across the whole continent.

If you are interested in the History of the medieval English kings, how and why kings were deposed, how Henry V created the image of the ‘warrior king’ and the results of the Wars of the Roses.

If you are interested in looking in depth at interpretations that explain the causes of the Wars of the Roses and how these conflicts came to shape Early Modern England and the victorious Tudor monarchy.

History A Level - Modern

If you are interested in German history, the failings of the Weimar Republic, how the Nazis came to power, why the country was divided after 1945 and how it came to be reunited in 1989.

If you are interested in the dictatorship of Mussolini, how he created the political movement known as fascism, why this had such a profound influence on Europe and how his political ideology and actions contributed to World War Two.

If you are interested in the history of the British Empire, how America gained its independence and how Britain grew into the world’s biggest empire.

If you are interested in the causes of the First World War and the continuing debate about the extent of Germany’s role.
